On October 10, 2023, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, the eighth match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 would take place between Pakistan (PAK) and SriLanka (SL). Pakistan defeated the Netherlands by a score of 81 runs to advance to the World Cup semifinals against SriLanka .
When they were 38/3 against the Dutch, they were having difficulties. However, Mohamad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel calmed the ship with a 116-run partnership, while Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan added 39 and 32 runs, respectively, to enable Pakistan score a respectable 286. Haris Rauf and Hasan Ali each took three and two wickets in the bowling department as Pakistan wiped out the Netherlands for 205 to win handily.
After losing their opening game to South Africa by 102 runs, Sri Lanka will face Pakistan. In a 50-over ODI, their bowlers struggled and let up the highest total ever (428 runs). Despite the difficult mark, Sri Lanka made a valiant effort, in large part because to the brilliant batting performance of Kusal Mendis, who scored 76 runs off just 42 balls, including eight sixes. Asalanka and Shanaka both made important contributions with scores of 79 and 68, respectively. Notably, Sri Lanka has never lost against Pakistan under Dasun Shanaka’s captaincy whereas Pakistan has an undefeated record versus Sri Lanka in ODI World Cup matches.
