Before India’s triumph against Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, teammates Yuvraj Singh and Virat Kohli, who won the 2011 World Cup, laughed with NBA great and former New York Knicks point guard John Starks at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. The legendary player from India arranged for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup trophy and the NBA’s Larry O’Brien trophy to reunite, in the wake of the ICC and NBA’s widely shared social media partnership that preceded the competition and starred India captain Rohit Sharma.
Starks was joined by Yuvraj to get an inside look at the Indian cricket team’s practices as they warmed up on the ground. When Singh brought Kohli and Starks together, they had a great conversation. Kohli even made a joke about Yuvraj’s knees keeping him from being able to play basketball, saying, “Best swing in the game.” He now plays golf as a result. Basketball? Knees are not good.

In addition, Starks was introduced to Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah by the former all-rounder, who engaged Starks in a lighthearted conversation on the similarities and differences between cricket and baseball, saying that the latter is “a little faster.” It’s that easy!”

When Yuvraj Singh, the ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, went to two elite sporting events on the same day, he set off on a unique trip. At the highly anticipated T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan, Yuvraj started his day in New York. He concluded his trip in Boston at the TD Garden for game two of the Celtics vs. Mavericks NBA Finals series. Singh discussed their performance and cricket with Celtics guard Derrick White following the team’s decisive victory in Game 2.
