In the first semi-final of the Champions Trophy 2025 between India and Australia at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, March 4, Australian captain Steve Smith was dismissed after a low full-toss that struck the off-stump on the full. When the ball struck the stumps, Smith was naturally devastated and screamed in frustration.
Steve Smith departure was caused by a delivery by Mohammed Shami.
The right-arm fast kept his celebrations low-key even though he took a crucial wicket in the context of the match. By itself, the delivery wasn’t particularly effective at taking wickets. Rather, it was Smith who made the disastrous mistake of trying to go over extra-cover’s head. He was Australia’s fifth wicket to fall.

Then, for the fifth time in the 50-over format, Shami picked up Smith. At 123 runs in 122 balls bowled, the two teams’ head-to-head record stands. In the ODI clash between Shami and Smith, it might be said that the Indian pacer had the upper hand.

Smith’s desperate attempt to clear the fence did not cause Alex Carey to lose his cool. Even if some wickets fell around him, he carried on with his good time. With a direct smash from Shreyas Iyer, the southpaw left for a mature knock of 61 runs.
The final score for Australia was 264 after 49.3 overs. In the end, Varun Chakravarthy had another outstanding performance, returning stats of 2/49 in his allocated quota. But Shami, who took three wickets, was the most impressive bowler. On Sunday, March 9, the victor of this competition will face either South Africa or New Zealand in the championship match.
