According to legendary South African speedster Dale Steyn, the first-ever 300-run IPL innings may occur on April 17, 2025. His prediction comes after Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) crushed Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 286/6 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday, showcasing their batting prowess in their season opener.
With a 44-run victory over the Royals, SRH had a great start to their 2025 campaign. Thanks to Ishan Kishan’s first century, Travis Head’s explosive half-century, and appearances by Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Reddy, and Heinrich Klaasen, the team displayed exceptional power-hitting. Their 286 was only two runs shy of the record they had established in IPL 2024, making it the second-highest total in IPL history. Former SRH player and bowling coach Steyn said that when SRH plays the Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium on April 17, the 300-run mark might be surpassed.
“Small prediction. April 17 we’ll see the first 300 in IPL. Who knows, I might even be there to see it happen,” Steyn wrote on X.

The former pacer’s prognosis seems plausible given the type of firepower that SRH’s batting lineup possesses. Their 2025 team appears even more formidable than the aggressive batting standard they established in the IPL 2024. Kishan made an instant impression after replacing Rahul Tripathi at No. 3, blasting a century off 45 balls in his first game for the team. The fifth-highest powerplay total in IPL history, 94 runs in the first six overs, were scored by SRH thanks to his knock and the batting of Head and Abhishek.
The 2024 match between SRH and MI at Wankhede was notable for its high score. MI nearly reached 246 at the end of their innings, but SRH, who batted first, put in 277. Mumbai’s narrow boundaries and smooth batting surface could make a 300-run record possible.
However, MI’s debut match at Chepauk was lost by four wickets to their bitter rivals, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), owing to strong bowling performances from Noor Ahmed and Khaleel Ahmed. Later, the game was decided for the Men in Yellow by the batting of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra.
