Since the 2012–13 season, when Pakistan last traveled to India for a bilateral series, the two teams have only played each other in white-ball competitions, like as the Asia Cup, T20 World Cup, 50-over World Cup, and Champions Trophy. Talks of the two teams playing a bilateral series have been absent for more than ten years.
Speaking on the same subject, former Indian icon Sunil Gavaskar recently stated that negotiations on the bilateral series’ restart could only take place when border stability was restored.
When asked how India and Pakistan can play bilateral series again, the response is, “Quite simply, by maintaining border peace.” It is extremely easy. “Look, okay, we’ve had no incidents, nothing at all,” I believe both governments will say if there is peace at the borders. India Today quotes Gavaskar on Sports Central as saying, “So, let’s at least start talking.”
“I’m fairly sure that some backchannel connections will occur. We hear about intrusions, though, so you want to monitor what’s going on both on and off the ground. For this reason, the Indian government is saying, “Look, perhaps we shouldn’t even consider having or discussing anything until all of that stops,” he continued.
It was beneficial for England to play: Sunil Gavaskar.
The former India opener gave the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) credit for putting politics and sport aside and allowing England to play Afghanistan in the Champions Trophy.
Whatever the government decides between themselves is another matter, therefore it’s a good thing the England and Wales Cricket Board is going ahead and playing. That they finally showed up and played was therefore a positive thing. And they lost, well. Therefore, if someone claims that “they didn’t want to play against Afghanistan because they knew they were going to lose,” Gavaskar said, “then maybe.”
In their most recent match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, India defeated Pakistan by six wickets with forty-five deliveries remaining. While the hosts finished last in Group A, India advanced to the competition’s knockout stage with one game remaining.
