At the storied Sydney Cricket Ground, the Indian side lost the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25, dropping the five-match series 3-1 and eliminating them from contention for the June World Test Championship final. The series began with India winning by 295 runs in Perth, but they lost the next three games in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney. Rain caused the third game in Brisbane to end in a draw.
Sunil Gavaskar, a former hitter for India, was incensed with the team’s subpar play during the series’ last game. When asked what he thinks India can do to improve and what went wrong against Australia, a disgruntled Gavaskar made a number of scathing comments.
honestly speaking, if the trophy was named after me i’d have been pissed in a similar way

“We are who? At cricket, we have no idea. Please don’t listen to us; we are nothing more than people who talk for the sake of television and money. Take one ear and listen with the other,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.
There is no doubt that I would have cherished attending the presentation: Sunil Gavaskar
As Allan Border was requested to give Pat Cummins the trophy, Gavaskar carried out his media responsibilities away from the stage and shared his concerns about not being invited to the series presentation event.
It would have been a pleasure to attend the presentation, no doubt. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is, after all, about India and Australia. After all, I am on the ground here. The fact that Australia prevailed in the presentation shouldn’t matter to me. They won because they played cricket better. That is acceptable. Due to my Indian heritage, I did not present the award. Gavaskar was cited by Code Sports as saying, “I would have been delighted to present the trophy with my good friend Allan Border.”
