In the IPL 2025 match between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium, Jitesh Sharma made a bold innning. One of the strokes that Jitesh played towards the conclusion of RCB’s innings was so spectacular that Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar were at a loss for words when discussing it.
Trent Boult tried a yorker at the RCB wicketkeeper-batter on the opening delivery of the 19th over. The length was not ideal, though, and the off-stump delivery ended up being longer. As he guided the ball over his fine leg, Jitesh went down on his knees, made touch with the ball and read the line and length ahead of time.
Despite getting very far across, the batter used enough force to get it over the fence for a six. The shot left the commentators very impressed.
Gavaskar asked his colleague commentator Shastri, “Is it a scoop or a pull?” The latter responded that it was a sweep as well. “It’s also a sweep,” Shastri continued. “It was one of the 25 sixes hit in the match which lit the arena.”
The underappreciated IPL 2025 effort of Jitesh Sharma
In the current seaso, Jitesh has performed admirably as a batsman and wicketkeeper. He made four catches and was not given an opportunity to bat in the season’s opening game against KKR. He took a catch and played a brilliant cameo of 12 off just six against CSK.
Jitesh scored 33 off 21 against GT, the lone game RCB has lost thus far, and prevented his team from collapsing. He also stole Sai Sudharsan’s catch. He achieved an undefeated 40*(19) while playing excellently against MI. In addition, Jitesh assisted Patidar, the captain of the RCB, in making a wise DRS decision to fire Ryan Rickleton.
