When asked about the T20 World Cup 2026 preparations, star Indian batsman and T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav recently left everyone speechless with a funny response. With only one year till the main event starts, the Indian squad is hoping that the forthcoming Twenty20 International series against England would serve as valuable preparation for the team.
Suryakumar Yadav was asked about India’s preparations for defending their T20 World Cup title during the pre-game press conference prior to the first England T20I.
In response, he mentioned that he had a conversation with Gautam Gambhir, the Indian coach. He also boldly questioned a reporter if he should tell all the secrets at once.
Are secret bata du kya idhar hi? I wish to relish the trip. We must organise the team, assign players, and participate in the majority of the games together. At the pre-game press conference, Suryakumar Yadav stated, “This is what Gauti bhai, (head coach Gautam Gambhir), and I focus on.”
That’s the primary objective: Axar Patel.
The identical issue was also posed to Axar Patel, the vice captain of Team India. In contrast to Suryakumar Yadav, India’s T20I deputy had a simpler response.
“We want to try it from the beginning because the World Cup is in a year. That’s the primary objective. If you get off to a strong start, momentum is important. We want to maintain the enthusiasm into this series as well because we had a strong finish in 2024,” Axar Patel told reporters.
On Wednesday, January 22, the Indian squad will play England in the first game of their series. The Eden Gardens in Kolkata will be the site of the match between the two sides. It is important to note that India and England will play each other in three ODIs and five T20Is. Both teams are hoping that the three ODIs would serve as useful preparation for the Champions Trophy 2025, which is quickly approaching.
