In the third Twenty20 International against Sri Lanka, with just 11 runs needed in two overs, newly chosen Twenty20 captain Suryakumar Yadav gave the bowl to Rinku Singh to bowl the penultimate over, even though Khaleel Ahmed and Mohammed Siraj still had an over to go. Although it was expected that Sri Lanka would win, Rinku surprised everyone by dismissing Ramesh Mendis and Kusal Perera for just three runs.
The match finished evenly when Suryakumar bowled the last over. India completed the series 3-0 with victory in the Super Over. Rinku remarked after the game that he had not expected to bowl at such an important juncture in the game, but the captain had told him to be ready to bowl in the series. The 26-year-old continued by saying that he has experience bowling in domestic cricket and that he regained his mojo after beginning to do so.
“In domestic cricket, I’ve taken a lot of wickets, and I’ve even taken one in one-day internationals.” I was supposed to be prepared to bowl in the series, Surya had told me. I didn’t bowl in the lead-up to this match, but Surya bhai had asked me to continue practicing. Given how tight things were during the game, I did not anticipate being asked to bowl. However, he requested that I roll my arm over. In a video that was uploaded on the BCCI website, Rinku stated, “And once I started bowling, it was God’s plan – two wickets.”
Rinku’s introduction by Suryakumar was a wise choice: Washington Sundar
versatile Suryakumar was praised by Washington Sundar for his bravery in bringing in Rinku during the 19th over. He disclosed that the players find it challenging to confront him in the net and expressed his happiness at being able to accomplish it on a global scale.
