At Friday night’s IPL 2025 match between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, a ball girl was tragically struck on the chest at the boundary after Suryakumar Yadav hit a strong six.
Avesh Khan bowled to Suryakumar Yadav, who had only scored two runs off his opening six balls, during the fifth over of MI’s chase.
Avesh produced a back-of-length ball outside off on the last delivery of the over, and Suryakumar crossed the crease before hitting the ball over deep square leg for a six. Unfortunately, as she tried to collect the ball, it struck a girl standing close to the boundary rope. The girl returned the ball to the LSG fielder, though, and appeared to be okay.

After winning the toss, the visitors chose to bowl first to start the match. In their 20 overs, Hardik Pandya and his team were able to limit LSG to 203/8. With his 60 off 31 balls, Mitchell Marsh dominated the MI bowlers, while Aiden Markram followed with a 53. Even with a strong top-order showing, MI was able to rally thanks to Pandya’s first-ever five-wicket haul.
Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton, Mumbai’s openers, were badly lost in the chase. Before falling in the ninth over, young player Naman Dhir kept the scoreboard moving with a rapid 46 off 24. Subsequently, Suryakumar steadied the innings before picking up speed. Ultimately, though, the Mumbai Indians lost the match by 12 runs after only managing to score 191/5.
