Suryakumar Yadav, India’s T20I captain, made another cheeky dig at Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) president Mohsin Naqvi following India’s 2-1 T20I series victory over Australia. The fifth and final match in Brisbane was rained out, but the Indian team won the series trophy, prompting a humorous quip from the captain that was interpreted as a jab at the Asia Cup 2025 trophy issue.
The Asia Cup 2025, held in Dubai, ended on a contentious note, despite India defeating Pakistan by five wickets in the final. The Indian team declined to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the PCB chairman and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president, in protest of his anti-India stance and comments following the Pahalgam terror incidents. With neither party relenting, Naqvi snatched the trophy and locked it inside the ACC headquarters in Dubai, where it remains to this day.
Suryakumar Yadav was asked after India’s series victory against Australia how it felt to capture another title.
“It feels great to finally get to touch the trophy. Felt it in my hands, when I was handed over the trophy for the series victory. A few days back another trophy arrived in India our women’s team has won the World Cup. That trophy has also arrived back home. It feels great and getting to touching this trophy as well feels good,” Suryakumar said in the post-match press conference.
Meanwhile, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that talks between the two cricket boards have finally resumed. Saikia revealed that he met Mohsin Naqvi on the sidelines of an ICC board meeting in Dubai, where officials helped facilitate dialogue on the trophy dispute.
“I was a part of both the informal and formal meeting of the ICC. PCB chairperson Mohsin Naqvi was also present. During the course of a formal meeting, it was not on agenda but ICC facilitated a meeting between myself and the PCB chief separately in the presence of a senior ICC office-bearer and another senior official,” Saikiasaid.
According to reports, both boards are optimistic about resolving the matter soon. The Asia Cup trophy, still in the ACC office under Naqvi’s orders, may finally be handed over to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in the coming weeks.
