Swastik Chikara and Sameer Rizvi, two new UP superstars, are in charge of UPT20.

15 September 2023, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh: As the first UPT20 tournament takes shape, it is enthralling cricket fans throughout the country and acting as a great stage to highlight the brilliant talent thriving in Uttar Pradesh. In this sporting feast, Swastik Chikara of the Meerut Mavericks and Sameer Rizvi of the Kanpur Superstars are emerging as notable players.

Swastik Chikara outstanding performance has quickly propelled him to the top of the scoring lists.

He has helped the Meerut Mavericks advance to the semifinals by scoring a staggering total of 456 runs, including three stunning centuries. The precocious Rizvi, who has shown exceptional skill by scoring two centuries for his 455 runs in 10 matches and sporting an astounding strike rate of 189, isn’t far behind. His performance has given Kanpur some optimism in the midst of a tough season.

The intense competition between these two exceptional athletes is evidence of the abundance of talent present in the UPT20 and provides a glimpse into the promising future of cricket in Uttar Pradesh, a region brimming with untapped potential and poised to produce the country’s next generation of cricketing legends.

Rizvi has been in outstanding form, finishing the competition with the second-highest score. He scored a remarkable century of 122* in just 55 balls early in the campaign to assist his team Kanpur win their first match of the competition. He added another 47-ball tonne to his campaign’s conclusion. In response to a question about his purple patch and his preparation for the competition, Rizvi responded, “I have been practising very hard for the competition. Once I knew I would be batting in the top order, I started to practise specifically for that and tried to train for various match situations in order to be prepared.”

Sameer Rizvi was given the job of leading his team halfway through the competition. When asked about the responsibility and the difficulties that came with it, Rizvi stated, “I was really glad to be granted the pleasure of leading the squad. I have had a lot of experience as a captain, so I am familiar with it. A lot of the experienced players in our team, like Akshdeep Nath and Ankit Rajpoot, have been incredibly helpful.

In spite of the lack of points, he continued, the team’s morale has been high throughout the competition. “I think we have had a very positive atmosphere in the team, especially since a lot of our losses have been very close,” he said. “This shows you the calibre of the team, and I think those results could have easily gone in our favour on another day.”

Jio UPT20 has demonstrated that it is crucial for discovering Uttar Pradesh’s talent pool. “This tournament is such an immense opportunity for young players, not only do they get to play with the best players from the state and India like Rinku Singh, Nitish Rana, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar but also for the match to be under lights, streamed all across India, gives them a unique opportunity to make a name for themselves,” said the right-handed batsman who tops the charts with the most sixes and highest strike rate in the competition.

“The standard of the tournament is very high, the facilities we are provided are of a very high quality, and it is great exposure for us younger players,” Swastik Chikara continued, echoing his peer’s comments. Working closely with more seasoned players in particular helps us strengthen our skills, identify our weaknesses, and identify opportunities for improvement.

Sameer Rizvi believed that the competition would benefit Uttar Pradesh, the largest state in India, saying, “We have so many districts here and so many talented players, as somebody from within the circuit, I was not aware of the skill some of these players possess; I didn’t even know their names. I’ve played with Swastik Chikara before, but I had no idea he had the skills he displayed during the competition despite the fact that he’s scored three century in a row.

IPL franchise scouts are definitely able to quickly spot prospects during the UPT20 event, but Sameer Rizvi noted, “I try not to think about these things. That is all I consider when I am batting. I haven’t given my future prospects much thought; all I want is to deliver solid performances.

upcoming games

On September 15, the semifinal matches will take place; the first matchup of the day will be between Noida Super Kings and Lucknow Falcons, and the second semifinal matchup of the day will be between Meerut Mavericks and Lucknow Falcons.
