On June 9, at Nassau County Stadium in New York, India and Pakistan squared off in Match 19 of the T20 World Cup 2024. Pakistan chose to bowl first after winning the toss. Virat Kohli left the game after only four runs scored, dealing an early blow to India. After making 13 out of 12 deliveries, Rohit Sharma did the same. Before Axar Patel walked back after scoring 20 off 18, Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel put together a crucial 39-run partnership for the third wicket.
Pant made friends with Suryakumar Yadav, and the latter performed all of the labour in the middle. With SKY having scored seven runs in a row, the innings was over, and Shivam Dube’s poor three off nine balls did not help. India’s lower order collapsed, scoring just 119 runs, and Pant left the pitch after scoring a crucial 42 off of 31. Along with Mohammad Amir, who claimed two wickets, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf each claimed three wickets.

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan scored more than six runs per over to give Pakistan a strong start while chasing. Usman Khan and Rizwan combined for 31 runs, forcing the Indians to panic, while Babar left the game after scoring 13 off 10 balls. In rapid succession, Axar selected Usman, while Hardik outperformed Fakhar Zaman. Hardik once again caught Shadab Khan, and Imad Wasim’s 15 off 23 appeared to be sluggish and out of rhythm.
Nervous 19th over delivered by Jasprit Bumrah
Pakistan needed 21 runs from the last two overs, but Bumrah bowled a ferocious spell and selected Iftikhar Ahmed with a full toss. He nearly sealed the game for India, conceding just three runs. Furthermore, by taking Rizwan’s wicket in the fifteenth over, Bumrah altered the direction of the match. Until Naseem Shah hit two straight boundaries, Arshdeep Singh held it close. Ultimately, he was only able to surrender 11 runs, and India lost by six runs.
