Canada defeated Ireland by 12 runs at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in the 13th game of Group A of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which took place on June 7, 2024, in New York. Ireland elected to field after winning the toss. Nicholas Kirton’s 49 off 35 balls and Shreyas Movva’s 37 helped Canada overcome a rocky start to post 137/7 in 20 overs. Ireland’s two wicket-takers were Barry McCarthy and Craig Young.
Ireland could only manage 125/7 after struggling in their pursuit. Significant bowling performances from Canada, such as 2/16 from Jeremy Gordon and 2/18 from Dilon Heyliger, hindered Ireland. The top scorers for Ireland were George Dockrell (30*) and Mark Adair (34), although it was insufficient. After his significant innings, Kirton was chosen Player of the Match.

The Irishmen’s next game against the USA is set to take place on June 14 at Lauderhill, Florida’s Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground. Meanwhile, on June 11 in New York, Canada will play Pakistan.
Paul Stirling, the Irish captain, acknowledged that his team was not playing at its best and voiced his sadness over the hard loss after the game. Though he acknowledged that the team wasn’t perfect, he thought the goal was reachable. Stirling focused on the next game and underlined the need to get better for the matches in Miami and Florida.
We were not at the races today; therefore, it was a difficult defeat. We believed we wouldn’t have too much difficulty reaching the goal. Today we were lacking in all three areas; we must play better when we travel to Miami and Florida. We have the USA up next, so we don’t want to look too far ahead,” he remarked following the game.
