On Saturday, June 1, at the brand-new Nassau County Cricket International Stadium in New York, India played their lone warm-up match for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 against Bangladesh. Although the Men in Blue won by a comfortable 60 runs, there was an incident during the game that demonstrated Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s compassionate side.
An ardent fan ran past security and onto the stadium to embrace Sharma during India’s second-inning fielding session. The security personnel grabbed the fan and then pinned him to the ground. But the famous cricket player won hearts with his response during that crucial moment.
Rohit Sharma begged the security to be lenient with the person as the US police officials handcuffed the fan. The Indian captain realised the fan wasn’t malicious. The 37-year-old was observed making gestures at the police, appealing with them to take it easy on them. In spite of breaking security procedures, he even called out for an Indian team member to step in and make sure the fan was treated compassionately.

In their T20 World Cup warm-up, India defeated Bangladesh by a margin of 60 runs.
Choosing to bat first, the Men in Blue produced a commanding display on the pitch. After his terrible vehicle accident in December 2022, Rishabh Pant returned on the pitch and looked amazing, scoring 53 off just 32 balls. The team reached 182/5 in the allocated 20 overs thanks to a rapid 40-run knock from vice skipper Hardik Pandya.
With Shivam Dube and Arshdeep Singh sharing four wickets, the Bengal Tigers’ pursuit was never able to get going and they were eventually bowled out for 122/9. Rohit and company only played one warm-up match, against Bangladesh.

Having been drawn into Group A, India’s campaign will begin on Wednesday, June 5, at the same location when they take on Ireland. India’s match against Pakistan, their bitter rivals, is scheduled for June 9 at Nassau County Stadium in New York, following the Ireland match.
