On November 19, in front of over a lakh spectators at the Narendra Modi Stadium, India will play Australia in the grand final. After defeating South Africa by three wickets in the second semifinal on Thursday at Kolkata’s famed Eden Gardens, the “Men in Yellow” advanced to the top match.
The match between Australia and India will be a rematch of the World Cup final from 2003.
At Johannesburg, Ricky Ponting’s guys had destroyed Sourav Ganguly and Co. After a few decades, Indian supporters will have the opportunity to defeat the formidable Australians. The tourists aim to win a sixth ODI World Cup, which would break all previous records. On the other hand, India may become just the second team, after Australia, to win the coveted championship three times.
Earlier in the tournament, at the round-robin stage in Chennai, Australia and India faced off. After chasing down a 200-run mark in the 42nd over thanks to half-centuries from KL Rahul and Virat Kohli, the home team overcame Australia by six wickets.
