Prior to their opening encounter in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on October 7, South Africa captain Temba Bavuma was all praise for colleague Heinrich Klaasen.
As Temba Bavuma described Klaasen’s recent performance with the bat, he claimed that he was walking on water.
The wicketkeeper-batter’s skill is something in which the 33-year-old said the team has a great deal of faith.
“With the way he’s been batting lately, Klaassen seems to be walking on water right now. He is undoubtedly a significant player for us. He has been a member of our team for a while, and in the pre-game news conference, Temba Bavuma said, “He has clearly demonstrated why there has been so much faith and backing in his skills.
The South Africa opener emphasized the importance of the top-order’s efforts further, emphasizing how they enable middle-order hitters like Klaasen to express themselves freely.
“Obviously he comes in and he marshals that middle order of our batting and I guess his success, not to take credit away from it, but his success is probably largely due to the platform that it gets from the guys who come in just be at the top of the order whether it be Quinton whether it be myself whether it be Rassie at the top three so I think it’s important that those guys do their jobs so guys like Klaassen even a guy like David [Miller], Aiden [Markram] can go out and do what we expect and want them to do,” he said.
White-ball cricket has been dominated by Klaasen this season, who has accumulated 527 runs in just 11 ODIs at an astounding average of 58.55 and a strike rate of over 150. His greatest total of 174 runs came against Australia in a recent home series. He has two century and a fifty to his credit.
