Chennai Super Kings cemented their position in the top half of the IPL 2023 points table by defeating Delhi Capitals in an impressive manner. Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan lavished praise on CSK skipper MS Dhoni, who strangled the Delhi batters in the middle overs during the chase.
The Yellow Army batted first in the match, amassing a formidable total of 167 runs on a lethargic surface thanks to a late assault by captain MS Dhoni. It was a struggle for the Delhi batters in their second inning as they fell well behind the eight ball during the chase, thanks to the CSK spinners’ impeccable control and guile.
“They always spin their web while bowling. If it is a slow pitch, no one manages the spinners better than Dhoni, and he did that very well. The web they spun, the Delhi Capitals batters could never come out of it. A spinner was introduced only in the sixth over.
The fast bowlers had taken wickets before that. We also saw a run-out. Then the one over from Jadeja, he was ripping the ball and there were also discussions in the middle between Dhoni and Jadeja about what could be done,” Pathan said in a post-match discussion on Star Sports.

The former Indian pacer also praised the home side’s batting efforts, as it was a really tough pitch to bat on. CSK’s hard-hitting all-rounder Shivam Dube took the attack to the opposition in the latter stages of the game, along with skipper MS Dhoni, to take their side to an above-par total at Chepauk.
“The pitch was like that as well. It was not a 200-run pitch. The batters did an amazing job with the number of runs they scored. MS Dhoni himself fired with the bat and Shivam Dube’s innings were fantastic,” Pathan added.
