Players' IPL form will undoubtedly determine their spots in the T20 World Cup squad: MSK Prasad

The former Chief of Selectors, MSK Prasad, provided unprecedented insights into the selection process for the upcoming T20 series against Afghanistan and the T20 World Cup in an interview with Star Sports. MSK Prasad underlined the necessity of fielding the finest team possible while pointing out that Afghanistan is a competitive nation and that getting ready for the T20 format ahead of the IPL is essential.

He expressed confidence in the comeback of important players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for the T20 World Cup, while also addressing the rest they received after the ODI World Cup.

In addition, MSK Prasad talked about possible squad choices and the difficulties in deciding on a starting lineup, especially in the middle order.

“I would definitely prefer to have the best possible team,” former Chief of Selectors MSK Prasad remarked in an exclusive interview with Star Sports about fielding the best team possible against Afghanistan. Because these three T20s are the last ones before the IPL and the real T20 format, that is the reason. Our key players would undoubtedly play in this T20, though, in order to accommodate the injured guys. Remember that Afghanistan is a very competitive nation that will take any necessary action.”

“I do understand that Rohit and Virat were given a bit of rest after the South Africa tour,” MSK Prasad stated in reference to the selection of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the team. I believe that was necessary following such a major occasion as the ODI World Cup. They required that kind of response. That being said, the kids have done really well and have had a good respite. I mean, there’s no question in my mind that Virat and Rohit will play in the T20 World Cup; therefore, they ought to begin this series.”

He continued, saying, “It begs the issue of why they withdrew from the T20 World Cup last year. They didn’t play since our primary goal was to concentrate on ODIs as we approached the ODI World Cup.

They provided this as a rationale for other young people who might have been considering the T20 World Cup. That’s fantastic that both of them have done it, and even the team management and selections have done it correctly. Because it is better to concentrate on the ODIs as we approach the ODI World Cup, and we also had the WTC. Thus, their attention was directed towards Test and ODI cricket. They ought to be back in action now that a T20 is imminent.”

Aside from those names, MSK Prasad also discussed who he felt might make the final T20 World Cup squad. “I think players like Virat, Rohit, and even Shami, Bumrah, Siraj, Jadeja, and Hardik, there are a few places where I feel players like Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson, if KL Rahul is keeping wickets, who is your second keeper? ” Imagine that Rishabh Pant is well. If Ishan Kishan is prepared, what then? What order should we pick him in, if at all?

Thus, I do not believe that we require a person at the head of the hierarchy. All these factors are undoubtedly going to be considered if Sanju throws his hat into the hat; we need someone in the middle. These are a few spots that will undoubtedly depend on the form they display in the IPL. Someone like Shubman Gill or Yashasvi Jaiswal, for example, has established himself, so his form will undoubtedly be a factor. In order to give the selectors a headache, it is crucial that they continuously ring the bell.”
