All ten IPL clubs made announcements about which players they would keep and release prior to the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai on December 19. On November 26, the 10 IPL teams released 81 players in total. The Kolkata Knight Riders had the most players released, while the Punjab Kings had the fewest. Additionally, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) offloaded Ben Stokes, Bhagath Varma, Subhranshu Senapati, Dwaine Pretorius, Ambati Rayudu, Kyle Jamieson, Akash Singh, and Sisanda Magala for unspecified reasons. Some teams may be interested in the free agents who are better than CSK’s opponents, the Mumbai Indians (MI). MI may target some of the talent that CSK let go of after releasing a few key players.
The three CSK-released players that MI might bid on in the IPL 2024 auction are as follows:
3. Dwaine Pretorius
An accomplished former South African all-round player is Dwaine Pretorius. He made numerous appearances for Proteas, however he declared his retirement from international competition early in 2023 due to a lack of regular opportunities. Pretorius didn’t play in the starting lineup for very long at CSK, appearing in just a few games.
If the Mumbai Indians purchase him at the IPL 2024 auction, then this could alter.
Pretorius is a competent batsman in the lower order as well as a bowler who can reach speeds of up to 140 kph. In the event of a collapse, he can even pair with an experienced batter and tonk the ball fairly hard. If MI chooses to make an investment on him, he might be a useful player.
2. Sisanda Magala
In the IPL 2023, Sisanda Magala participated in just two matches for CSK before an injury kept her out of the league. Due to an ankle niggle, Magala’s injury problems persisted, and the board decided not to take any chances, therefore he was unable to play for South Africa at the ICC World Cup in 2023.
Mumbai Indians are considering making a bid for the Proteas pacer Magala because of his reasonable bowling pace and predicted skidiness on the Wankhede pitch. However, as is evident, a lot will depend on how well Magala maintains his form and level of fitness for the forthcoming SA20 League competition. If he does well, MI—who needs a foreign pacer—will be interested in him in addition to CSK.
1. Kyle Jamieson
In 2021, Kyle Jamieson made his IPL debut for RCB and displayed a lot of promise. In nine games, he claimed nine wickets. The Chennai Super Kings subsequently acquired him at the IPL 2023 auction for INR 1 crore. But he was unable to participate in the match due to a crippling back ailment, hence he missed the 2023 Indian Premier League.
Despite CSK’s decision to release him, Kyle Jamieson is back with the New Zealand team, healthy and eager to play. With the ball, he can reach speeds of up to 140 kph, and MI will be considering hiring him. In addition to bowling, he can hit deep sixes with the bat down the order to provide Hardik Pandya with some competition. Anticipate MI to pursue Jamieson if he declares for the IPL 2024 auction and is deemed healthy.
