The match between the Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2024 Indian Premier League created history. On Wednesday, March 27, both teams were in the spotlight for the tournament’s eighth game at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
After some outstanding batting performances by the team’s top-order, Sunrisers Hyderabad elected to bat first and amassed 277 runs in the opening inning. For the Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack, it was definitely a day to forget.
In his four overs, rookie Kwena Maphaka gave up 66 runs; Hardik Pandya gave up 46 runs while taking one wicket; Jasprit Bumrah was struck for 36 runs; and Gerald Coetzee gave up 57 runs in his four overs as Mumbai failed to restrict Hyderabad’s batsmen.
Star MI hitter Tim David, however, defended the bowling strategy that MI had set for their opponents after observing the poor bowling performance.
Showing off his admiration for Jasprit Bumrah, Tim David stated that Bumrah’s bowling affects MI greatly every time he bowls.
Planning undoubtedly takes place with regard to who will bowl the opening over. I believe Booms (Bumrah) will have a significant impact on us wherever he bowls. So much trust is placed in his ability to bowl anywhere he desires. And I believe that over the course of the two games. It’s difficult for me to remark because I’m not making that decision, although at times he might take the new ball,” India Today cited David as saying.
The Rajasthan Royals play the Mumbai Indians next.
Mumbai Indians have already lost both of their IPL 2024 matches thus far after falling to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 31 runs in their match. The Hardik Pandya-led team is now in ninth place in the standings with 0 points, so they will be eager to get better and play better in their next games.
