In match six of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Rawalpindi, Bangladesh set a low target of 236 runs for New Zealand to pursue. The BlackCaps, notably, won the toss and decided to field first. The choice appeared to be warranted following the Bangla Tigers’ mid-game dip.
Jaker Ali’s 45 runs came after Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto’s outstanding 77-run performance, making him the only batsman to score a respectable number of runs. Rishad Hossain and Tanzid Hasan both scored 26 and 24 runs, respectively, later down the order.
New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell stopped Bangladesh from reaching a significant total by taking four wickets. Throughout the Asian team’s innings, the batsmen struggled due to the team’s well-rounded bowling unit and excellent fielding.
The Kiwi openers, Devon Conway and Will Young, suffered significant losses earlier in the second innings. In the first over, Taskin Ahmed dismissed Young for a duck. Williamson followed him shortly after for a cheesy firing. Conway was struck out by Mustafizur Rahman after scoring thirty runs. In 15.4 overs, New Zealand was at 72/3 and in a completely destroyed position.
However, Rachin Ravindra and Tom Latham saved the day with a crucial partnership of 129 runs. A glimmer of hope was given when Ravindra got his well-earned century (112) and Latham scored 55, leading New Zealand to 201/4 in 30 overs. With a five-wicket margin victory, all-rounders Glenn Phillips and Michael Bracewell ultimately made sure New Zealand didn’t falter any further. They are now eligible to play in the Champions Trophy semifinals as a result.
