At the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Tuesday, March 4, India defeated Australia handily to advance to the Champions Trophy 2025 finals.

Australia lost the early wicket of Cooper Connolly after choosing to bat first. Travis Head, however, pegged India back with a quick knock of 39. Following the southpaw’s dismissal, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne formed a strong partnership, scoring 56 runs between 85 balls for the third wicket.

Josh Inglis and Smith’s partnership ended just as it was beginning to look bleak, and Labuschagne failed to turn his start into a significant score. Smith was joined in the middle by Alex Carey, and the two of them hammered 54 runs off 58 deliveries.

Mohammed Shami got rid of Smith against the flow of play when the right-hander failed to catch a low full-toss. Off 96 balls, he scored 73 runs. As wickets continued to fall from the other end, Carey proceeded to smash 61 off 57 deliveries. In 49.3 overs, Australia was eventually bowled out for 264. During the powerplay, India lost the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Despite being dropped twice, the latter was unable to hold Australia accountable for their mistakes. However, with a partnership of 91 runs off 111 balls, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer maintained the fort. Kohli reached his half-century just after Iyer was out for forty-five.

Once again batting at number five, Axar Patel made a significant contribution with a knock of 27. KL Rahul joined Kohli after being fired and led India to the goal. While Kohli led the innings, the Indian wicketkeeper used some forceful strokes. After the latter was subsequently out for 84 off 98 balls, India needed to win in 7.2 overs with 40 more runs.

When Hardik Pandya emerged to the center, he appeared to be eager to get things done. India was on the verge of victory thanks to the all-rounder’s three sixes and one four. But as he tried to hit a maximum to end the match, he left for a 24-ball 28. With eleven balls remaining, India triumphed by four wickets with to Rahul’s spectacular six off Maxwell to finish the formalities.
