Anderson Phillip made a spectacular catch to dismiss Travis Head on Day 1 of the ongoing three-match series between the West Indies and Australia. Head, who had to head back for 20 off 53, was Australia’s sixth wicket of the pink-ball Test at Kingston.
Justin Greaves bowled a full ball, which Travis Head planned to lift over the extra cover zone while dropping down on one leg.
The ball did not travel as far as Head would like. Phillip, stationed at midfield, dashed to his right and dived full-stretch to keep the ball, despite his elbows scraping the turf.

On the opening day of play, the visitors were bowled out for 225 in 70.3 overs. Steven Smith led the way with 48 off 66, while Greaves (3/56 in 14 overs) and Jayden Seales (3/59 in 16 overs) followed. Shamar Joseph scalped the remaining four wickets. The pacer was also West Indies’ most economical bowler, giving up only 33 runs in 17.3 overs.
The West Indies remained cautious during the nine overs played before Stumps was called. They scored 16 runs for the loss of one wicket in the form of Kevlon Anderson. The top-order batsman was removed for three off fourteen. Brandon King (8* from 26) and Roston Chase (3* from 14) stayed unbeaten.
In terms of the series, the Pat Cummins-led team leads by an insurmountable margin after winning the first two games. They won the first and second Tests by 159 and 133 runs, respectively. Chase and company would want to win the series and would be looking for a big first innings total.
