The Indian team bowled as a unit, with Paruniuka Sisodia (2/6 in four overs), Aayushi Shukla (2/9 in four overs), Vaishnavi Sharma (2/23 in four overs), and Gongadi Trisha (3/15 in four overs) dismissed for a pitiful 82 to ensure that South Africa could never enter the game.
In the summit match at Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur, the Indian women defeated South Africa to win the U19 Women’s T20 Cup title in Malaysia. The team lead by Nikki Prasad put on another outstanding display; they had a historic run and were undefeated throughout the competition.
After winning the toss, South Africa’s captain, Kayla Reyneke, decided to bat, however the move backfired when the batters did not perform as expected. With 23 off 18, Mieke van Voorst was the top run scorer for the Indian spinners, who caused their opponents a lot of trouble.
India lost a wicket early in the chase as opponent captain Kayla Reyneke caught G Kamilini for eight. But Sanika Chalke and Trisha, who were in form, ensured that the goal was chased down in 11.2 overs, and they won the match by a commanding nine wickets. After taking three wickets with the ball, Trisha demonstrated her batting prowess once more, going undefeated at 44 off 33 with eight fours, and Chalke was undefeated at 26 off 22, hitting four boundaries.
The competition saw some outstanding performances from the India U19 team, but Trisha’s outstanding all-around play made her the campaign’s standout.
She had a great tournament, scoring 309 runs at an incredible average of 77.25 in seven innings and taking seven wickets.
Her contributions were sufficient for her to win Player of the Tournament. With an undefeated 110 against Scotland, Trisha also became the first centurion in the history of the Women’s U19 T20 World Cup.
