UAE to host Pakistan and Afghanistan in T20I Tri-Series ahead to Asia Cup 2025

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will host a seven-match T20I tri-series including Pakistan and Afghanistan beginning on August 29 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. All matches will take place in the evening, beginning at 7:00 p.m. local time, with the final slated for September 7.

This tri-series will provide critical training for the three teams ahead of the Asia Cup 2025, which begins just two days after the series closes. Pakistan will face Afghanistan in the opening encounter.

Pakistan are currently on a limited-overs tour of the West Indies, which includes three T20Is and three ODIs. They now lead the T20I series 1-0. However, the team will try to re-establish consistency following a disappointing performance in a recent away series against Bangladesh, which resulted in a 1-2 loss.

Afghanistan, on the other hand, was last seen in action during the Champions Trophy 2025 and has not played an international match since. The tri-series provides an excellent opportunity for the team to regain form before beginning their Asia Cup 2025 campaign against Hong Kong.

UAE enters the tri-series with renewed confidence after defeating Bangladesh 2-1 in a home T20I series earlier in May. That triumph in front of home fans has given the team a big boost.

The Asia Cup 2025 will begin on September 9, only two days after the tri-series final. For the first time in tournament history, eight nations will compete in the T20 format in a vital buildup to the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Group A includes India, Pakistan, Oman, and the UAE, while Group B includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 4s, where the top two sides will compete in the final on September 28.
