Umran Malik, an Indian fast bowler, has not had a fantastic season in the IPL 2023, as he has taken only five wickets in seven games and his economy rate is 10. Malik’s last game of the season was on April 29 against the Delhi Capitals, where he conceded 22 runs per over. However, SRH fans and a number of experts have not been pleased with Umran Malik unexpected absence.
When queried about the pacer’s absence at the toss against RCB on May 18, the captain of South Africa’s cricket team, Aiden Markram, gave an odd response, stating that he was uncertain. Former SRH coach Tom Moody stated, in response to Markram’s statement, that the SRH captain has no input in team selection.
Moody stated on ESPN cricinfo, “I believe this implies that he has very little say in the selection process and that he may have an opinion on Umran Malik, the cricketer, and what he believes his season should have been like in terms of playing opportunities.”
“To be perfectly frank with you, I am unsure. Clearly, he is a player with X-factor and bowlers at 150kmph, but I have no idea what is transpiring behind the scenes. However, he is a player with many X-factors,” Markram said at the toss of Match 65 against RCB.
Moody elaborated on Markram’s statement by stating that the captain and coach should be on the same page regarding team selection.
Numerous chefs are present in the kitchen: Bill Moody
“That’s not ideal; your captain and coach should be on the same page, working toward what you believe to be the optimal combination.” Regarding participation in the selection process, each franchise is unique. On some other teams, there are numerous chefs in the kitchen. I believe this to be the case when discussing the Sunrisers,” the 53-year-old explained.
SRH have been eliminated from IPL 2023 as they are tenth on the IPL points table with eight points from thirteen games. After being asked to bat first in their most recent match against RCB, the Markram-led team scored 186/5 thanks to Heinrich Klaasen’s century (104 runs off 51 balls). In response, the RCB chased down the target in 19.2 overs thanks to a scintillating century from Virat Kohli (100 off 63) and won by eight wickets.
