Shubman Gill, India’s Test captain, is reportedly unwell and may miss the next Duleep Trophy 2025. Gill, who was named captain of the North Zone squad, will now miss the full season in order to join the Indian team for the Asia Cup 2025, where he will also serve as vice-captain of the 15-member squad, which will be led by Suryakumar Yadav.
In Gill’s absence, Ankit Kumar, Haryana’s standout batter, will captain the North Zone team. The group also includes Indian players such as Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Anshul Kamboj. Arshdeep and Rana, who have been nominated to India’s Asia Cup roster, will join the Indian side for national duty following the season’s first match against East Zone.
According to Shubman Gill, he is being urged to relax and is doing so at his Chandigarh home.
Sources close to the situation have already revealed that the Fazilka native will miss the entire local tournament. The zonal selectors, or even those from the national committee, have yet to rule on Gill’s absence from the competition.
To fill the 25-year-old’s spot, North Zone selectors will add Shubham Rohilla to the squad. Gurnoor Brar and Anuj Thakral, on the other hand, have been identified as potential replacements for Arshdeep and Harshit Rana in the six-team North Zone lineup for the event.
