Deepti Sharma has been named the new captain of the UP Warriorz ahead of the Women’s Premier League’s third season (WPL 2025). Alyssa Healy, the captain of Australia, will be replaced by her as the team’s leader in the forthcoming season. Notably, Healy was unable to participate in this edition due to a foot ailment she suffered during the 2024 T20 World Cup. She was forced to miss even the event final versus New Zealand due to a ruptured plantar fascia in her foot.
Speaking of Deepti Sharma, at the inaugural WPL auction, the 27-year-old was purchased by UP Warriorz for an incredible INR 2.6 crore.
The all-rounder amassed 295 runs at a strike rate of 136.57 and an average of 98.33 in eight games during the 2024 WPL. She took 10 wickets with the ball at an average of 21.70, surpassing her nine-wicket tally from the previous season.
