Young Australian batsman Georgia Voll has joined UP Warriorz to play the remainder of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 in place of Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu. In order to return to his national obligations with Sri Lanka, Athapaththu has departed the tournament. They will begin their tour of New Zealand on March 4.
The UP Warriorz paid INR 30 lakh to sign the Australian batter. The Warriorz are trying to earn a postseason berth, and her addition strengthens the team. When it comes to women’s cricket, Voll is among the most gifted youngsters available. At the Allan Border Field in Brisbane on December 5, 2024, she made her second ODI appearance against India and scored a century, capping an outstanding start to her international career.
Georgia Voll was also selected for the 2025 Women’s Ashes series for Australia.
At Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney on January 20, 2025, she played her first Twenty20 International match against England.
In 12 games for the Sydney Thunder in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2024–25, Voll scored 330 runs at a strike rate of 144.73 and an average of 30. With 45 fours and five sixes, she hit two half-centuries during the competition.
Right now, UP Warriorz are ranked fourth in the standings, just ahead of Gujarat Giants. In their five games, the team captained by Deepti Sharma has won two and lost three. After suffering back-to-back losses at first, they recovered with back-to-back victories. Wednesday, February 26 was the Warriorz’s most recent game, and they were soundly defeated by the Mumbai Indians.
With a 26-ball 45, Grace Harris was the Warriorz’s standout batswoman and gave her side a strong start. But as the Warriorz were reduced to 142/9 in 20 overs, the remaining batters were unable to convert. Mumbai dominated the chase, winning with three overs remaining and eight wickets.
