The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 season has seen the lowest total thus far from the UP Warriorz (UPW). The Gujarat Giants (GG) easily won by six wickets, and their 143/9 was insufficient. Lisa Sthalekar, UPW’s mentor, believes her team fell short by at least 30 to 40 runs.
Looking at our batted innings, we most likely left between 30 and 40 runs in the field. At the news conference following the game, Sthalekar stated, “We were hurt by losing wickets at the top and then in the middle.”
Sthalekar commented, “I’d say it maybe stayed a little bit lower,”
In reference to the UP Warriorz poor total.
However, you can see that the bowling has improved from game one to game three since bowlers have been focussing more on the stumps.
“If you watch the first game, you’ll notice that many deliveries went for boundaries instead of hitting the stumps. Thus, I believe the bowlers are beginning to retaliate.
Despite the defeat, Sthalekar was very proud of her captain, Deepti Sharma, who she felt fought incredibly hard.
“I thought Deepti’s batting technique was excellent. She truly put up a fight and had a decent all-around game. The 45-year-old stated, “She knew her plan and stuck to it while wickets were falling.”
Speaking of the Giants, Sthalekar thinks that Ash Gardner, who has already smashed two fifties and claimed four wickets in the WPL 2025, has improved as a player as a result of the extra responsibility that comes with being captain.
Giving someone the role of captain can occasionally make them prioritise others over themselves. As a result, she must now consider the other members of the team,” Sthalekar stated.
She still needs to play as an individual, but she’s done a fantastic job at it. Additionally, she’s having a good run of success in T20 cricket. In my opinion, the leadership has undoubtedly contributed to her giving her finest effort thus far in this WPL season.”
When the Warriorz play the Delhi Capitals (DC) on Wednesday, February 19, they will try to start the WPL 2025 off well.
