Upul Tharanga, the national selector for Sri Lanka Cricket, recently spoke out regarding his country’s team for the 2024 T20 World Cup. According to Tharanga, fielding three spinners in the playing XI might be a wise move during the competition.
It is important to note that Dhananjaya de Silva, Kamindu Mendis, Charith Asalanka, and Dunith Wellalage are members of Sri Lanka’s squad and can provide additional spin options to captain Wanindu Hasaranga and off-spinner Maheesh Theekshana.
It is possible that we will occasionally use three spinners. The Hindustan Times cited Tharanga as saying, “Looking at that is why we picked Dunith, particularly his batting, because sometimes we could go with him ahead of a fast-bowling all-rounder.”
“We appreciate Dhananjaya’s bowling. Regarding power-hitting, we believe that we can obtain it from other areas of the side. He was a superior choice in terms of his overall contribution and the circumstances,” he continued.
Players to bowl at the end of the game are: Upul Tharanga
Additionally, Upul Tharanga discussed the star pacer Matheesha Pathirana‘s injury status. In the dying overs, they would have some much-needed firepower thanks to Pathirana, if he recovered in time for the World Cup. It is important to remember that Pathirana is anticipated to play for Sri Lanka when they play South Africa on June 3 to start their World Cup campaign.
“We should concentrate on getting wickets in the Powerplay, but we have people to bowl at the end of the game. As a result, we have Asitha as a roaming reserve and Madushanka for that,” Tharanga stated.

“Thoughhara, Pathirana, can bowl in the final overs if we take them. However, we chose Asitha because we needed someone who could step in if we needed a wicket-taking option with the new ball,” he continued.
