Before the inaugural season, Uttarakhand Premier League reveals the teams and owners

At Dehradun, Uttarakhand, on August 31, 2024: The clubs that are excited to play in the first season of the Uttarakhand Premier League (UPL) were revealed at a big ceremony on Saturday in Dehradun by the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU) and the league’s organisers, SSPARK Sports and Entertainment. In order to determine who will win the first UPL championship, Mahim Verma (Secretary, CAU) unveiled the competition’s founding teams as well as the team owners of the five men’s and three women’s teams.

The five men’s teams, representing the varied and talented regions of Uttarakhand, are as follows:

1. Dehradun Warriors – Owned by Shailendra Bhadauria
2. Haridwar Spring Elmas – Owned by Fiyajuddin
3. Nainital SG Pipers – Owned by Dr. Rohan Gupta
4. Pithoragarh Hurricane – Owned by Parkash Singh & Krishna Shetty
5. Udham Singh Nagar Indians – Owned by Subhash Arora

The three women’s teams, who will play a crucial role in providing more opportunities and elevating the interest in women’s sport across the state, are:

1. Mussoorie Thunders – Owned by Parkash Singh
2. Nainital SG Pipers – Owned by Dr. Rohan Gupta
3. Pithoragarh Hurricane – Owned by Krishna Shetty

These teams are symbols of the pride of the entire state of Uttarakhand, as well as the energy and enthusiasm of their individual cities. Through developing talent and giving local players a chance to flourish on a larger stage, the UPL seeks to bring the state together through cricket. The UPL is set to be a celebration of Uttarakhand’s rich cultural legacy and athletic potential, uniting the populations of Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital, Pithoragarh, and Udham Singh Nagar.

With a prize money pool of around INR 50 lacs, the UPL has significantly increased the tournament’s popularity. The women’s competition victors will receive INR 7 lacs, while the men’s competition winners will receive a whopping INR 25 lacs. The winning teams will also receive handsome prizes; the women’s and men’s teams will get INR 3 lacs and INR 12 lacs, respectively.

The league will also award INR 25,000 to the women’s player of the series and INR 1 lac to the men’s player of the series in recognition of individual excellence. Jai Hind Auto Tech Industries has stepped forward to proudly award an electric bike and activa to the respective Men’s and Women’s Player of the Series, demonstrating their dedication to promoting homegrown talent. A Player of the Match award of INR 10,000 will be presented for each of the 16 matches in both competitions of the UPL to guarantee that every match is hotly contested.

This large investment demonstrates the UPL’s commitment to the growth of cricket in Uttarakhand and the league’s commitment to compensating players for their skill and hard work. The UPL is establishing a new standard for domestic cricket competitions and opening the door for future stars to emerge by providing such generous incentives.

The teams’ next big move will be to choose their star players in the UPL Player Draft, which is set for Sunday, September 1, 2024, in Dehradun. In order to obtain elite athletes for the men’s and women’s competitions, the respective team owners will make calculated decisions at this event. The five men’s teams will be able to select

from five marquee players: Aditya Tare, Kunal Chandela, Rajan Kumar, Deepak Dhapola, and Akash Madhwal.

The teams will initially select one marquee player apiece. The three elite women’s players that will be available to the Mussoorie Thunders, Nainital SG Pipers, and Pithoragarh Hurricane are Ekta Bisht, Mansi Joshi, and Neelam Bisht.

“The Uttarakhand Premier League is not just a tournament; it’s a movement that will elevate the entire state of Uttarakhand,” said Mahim Verma, Secretary, CAU, in remarks made on the occasion.

We want to promote the top cricket players in our state through the UPL while also fostering the development of a strong sports culture in the area. We are thrilled with everyone’s enthusiasm and responsiveness who has chosen to invest in the teams in order to promote the cricket ecosystem in the state.

We would like to welcome them to the UPL Family on behalf of the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand and wish them well in tomorrow’s player draft.”

In order to support the teams and individuals competing in the competition and to reward them so they may continue advancing in their individual careers, Verma said, “We are also very excited to present a very attractive prize money pool to them.”

At the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun, the UPL is scheduled to begin play on September 15, 2024, and run through September 22, 2024. Thirteen games total—three for the women’s teams and thirteen for the men’s teams—will be played in the league, leading up to the grand final, which will crown the first champions.
