Vaibhav Suryavanshi claimed that his main source of motivation for his record-breaking knock against England U19 was Shubman Gill’s batting performance in the second Test of the ongoing five-match series.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored a 52-ball tonne against England U19 in the fourth Youth ODI of the series, the fastest in Youth ODI history.
The Samastipur native also expressed a desire to have batted longer and not been dismissed at 143 on the first ball of the 28th over of the innings. He also stated that his next goal was to bat the full 50 overs and get a double-ton.
“I didn’t realise I had broken the record. Shubman Gill’s 100 and 200 runs were a source of great motivation for me. “He kept at it and took it forward,” the opening batsman told the BCCI after the game.
“I could have batted longer. There were still 20 overs remaining in the match. I could have played a longer game. I went out for a shot that I couldn’t execute well, but I wanted to bat as long as him. There is no celebration. I’ll just be satisfied that I did well for the team. “My next goal is to hit 200 and play 50 overs,” he said.

Speaking of the game, India U19 posted 363/9 in their full quota of 50 overs on the back of centuries from Suryavanshi (143 off 78) and Vihaan Malhotra (129 off 121). Sebastian Morgan (3/54 in 10 overs) and Jack Home (4/63 in 8 overs) were amongst the wickets for the hosts.
The English openers had started off well. They had been successful in forging a century stand between themselves. However, despite a 91-ball 107-run knock from Rocky Flintoff, it was not meant to be as there were hardly any other contributions from the middle-order batters. Naman Pushpak (3/63 in 8.3 overs) secured a three-fer, as the visitors eventually won by 55 runs.
