Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a young and emerging batter, was spotted in the stands at Birmingham’s Edgbaston stadium for Day 2 of England’s second Test against India. The kid watched Shubman Gill bat from the stands as the India captain sailed over his double century in the afternoon session on the second day of the crucial Test.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi is a member of the India U-19 squad, which is currently in the United Kingdom on a multi-format visit against the England U-19 team.
A couple of Suryavanshi’s colleagues were also present as they witnessed the senior side not only gain the upper hand, but also dismantle the English bowling unit after being in trouble on the first day of the game.
Speaking of the match, Gill was the aggressor on the second day, looking to recover from a first-day meltdown. The captain coupled his batting with Ravindra Jadeja to form a good 203-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Jadeja was 11 runs short of his century at the time of his dismissal, after which Tamil Nadu’s Washington Sundar joined Gill in the middle.
Gill, who completed his double century in just 311 deliveries, raised the stakes and increased the flow of runs. Sundar was an able partner who contributed equally to their collaboration during the second session of the day. With the scoreboard having reached 550 runs, the speed attack will now have to contain the English batting by the end of the first inning.
Notably, India is without their cornerstone bowler Jasprit Bumrah, so the pace attack will now consist of Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna, with Nitish Kumar Reddy serving as the fourth medium-pace option. A critical moment of the game is on the horizon, as India seeks to equalise the five-match series, with three more to come.
