The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 30 of the 2025 Indian Premier League to earn their second victory of the season. The entire team gave an outstanding performance, and the visitors won by five wickets. LSG was held to just 166 runs by the five-time champions, who played outstandingly, particularly in the opening innings. In the match, CSK captain MS Dhoni put on an incredible display, scoring 26* from 11 and making one catch, one stumping, and one run out.
In addition, Dhoni received Player of the Match for his outstanding effort. On the final delivery of the 17th over, the 43-year-old cricketer hit a six off Shardul Thakur, causing the BRSABV Ekana Stadium in Lucknow to scream in joy. Living up to his reputation as the finest finisher, the Ranchi-born player’s spectacular hits throughout the ground stole the show.
His performance left everyone quite impressed, including former cricket player Varun Aaron, who described having Dhoni at the crease as “priceless.”
Varun Aaron stated that Dhoni had a realistic goal to meet because the CSK top order performed well.
“Especially in the end, it is invaluable to have MS Dhoni at the crease. The top order, particularly the first two, offered him a realistic goal to meet, and I believe that tonight was one of those occasions. It doesn’t happen often, but the lower order was receiving ridiculous targets in the prior games, needing 14–15 runs each over. Today, however, it was a very attainable goal. And if you give MS Dhoni that, he’ll probably get there,” Aaron stated on JioHotstar.
In the last moments, the bowlers for the Lucknow Super Giants bowled one-dimensionally, only going for wide lines and failing to attempt a bouncer or a decent slow ball outside the off stump. They could have been better. Varun went on to say, “They will suffer if they don’t give Ravi Bishnoi that over.”
Despite their convincing victory over LSG, the Chennai-based team will need to keep up their winning streak if they hope to make the playoffs. To secure a postseason berth, CSK must still win five of their next seven games. Fans are optimistic now that MS Dhoni is back as captain of CSK.
