Varun Chakravarthy is playing cricket for India and is having a great time taking wickets. In the recent Champions Trophy 2025 campaign, he was a key player for India. But Chakravarthy’s career hasn’t always been sunny.
In July 2021, he made his debut for India in the Twenty20 International format against Sri Lanka. He later played in the UAE in 2021 at the T20 World Cup. However, India was unable to advance past the first round, as he did not take a single wicket in the three games.
The difficult moments after the poor performance were recalled by Chakravarthy. He said that after the World Cup, he was threatened and told not to return to India. On his journey home from the airport, the mystery spinner also claimed to have been tailed by bikers.
“It was a difficult period for me. I was in a depressive state because I felt I couldn’t live up to the hype around my World Cup selection. I was sorry I didn’t take a single wicket. For three years after that, I was not chosen. The journey to my debut was easier, but I believe the return to the team was more difficult. (After 2021). I had to change a lot about myself. In a YouTube video, Chakravarthy said to well-known anchor Gobinath, “I had to alter my daily routine and practice.”
I once practiced with 50 balls in a session, which I doubled. It was challenging, even without knowing if the selectors would remember me. I believed it had all vanished after the third year. I was overjoyed when I received the call after we won the IPL,” he added.
Regarding his subpar results in 2021, Varun Chakravarthy said, “I know fans are sentimental.”
In addition, Varun Chakravarthy found something startling. He claimed that in addition to receiving some threatening calls, other individuals attempted to track him down at his home. But he also mentioned that subpar performances might infuriate and upset viewers. The cunning spinner, however, appeared to be overjoyed after winning the Champions Trophy and receiving cheers from the crowd.
It’s hard for me to accept that everything positive is happening at once. I want to make it more advanced. I have experienced setbacks, so I am aware of how hurtful criticism can be. I was threatened with calls following the 2021 World Cup. Stay away from India. No matter how hard you try, you will fail. People approached my residence, followed me, and occasionally I had to hide.
A few individuals on motorcycles followed me as I rode back from the airport. That occurs. I recognize the emotional nature of fans. However, when I reflect on those things and the recognition I am currently getting, I am content,” Chakravarthy said.
