India is all set to face England in the next five-match Test series. The widely anticipated match will begin on June 20 at Headingley. Going into this series, the Shubman Gill-led team will undoubtedly face high expectations.
Shardul Thakur, a bowling all-rounder, considered the 2021-22 trip to England to be one of his most memorable experiences.
“I recall the ’21 series, in which we won a few games. We may have won the first one as well, but it poured on the penultimate day, and we were unable to hunt down the total. But then we won at Lord’s, The Oval, and returned for the fifth Test next year. The series was competitive, but it was one of my greatest experiences, one of the best Test series I’ve ever played in,” Shardul told the BCCI’s social media team.
Shardul was excited to take on the trials of English conditions.
“I believe it is really thrilling to play in this part of the world where you confront different obstacles. The first is, without a doubt, weather. “Sometimes it’s cloudy, sometimes it’s bright and sunny, and as a player, you have to adjust your game whether you’re batting or bowling,” Shardul said.
If we could accomplish this feat, it would be huge for the entire country: Shardul
Shardul was looking forward to playing alongside young talent in the Test squad, and he stressed how important a series victory would be for the country and Indian cricket.
“It’s great to have new enthusiasm in the team. Few young people are emerging, and new talent is always intriguing. Now that the England team is playing a different style of cricket, you’d like to surprise them by announcing that we’re here to perform. And winning away series is always satisfying. If we could pull off this achievement, it would be huge for the entire country,” Shardul remarked.
This will be Shardul’s second tour of England. His first one was in 2021-22 where there was a 2-2 deadlock between the two sides in the five-match series. The first game in Nottingham was drawn. England won the fifth match by seven wickets to draw level.
