Vignesh Puthur is a gifted left-arm wrist-spinner who was scouted by the Mumbai Indians (MI) prior to the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Despite the fact that he hasn’t played domestic cricket and has only played a few games in the Kerala Cricket League (KCL), the team pursued him.
But in the season’s opening match, Puthur made headlines by taking three wickets against the Mumbai Indians’ bitter rivals, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), in Chepauk on Sunday, March 23.
Puthur’s early views of the young player were conveyed by Ramakrishnan S, the batting coach for Alleppey Ripples, a KCL team he represents. Interestingly, Puthur has only participated in four KCL games and has taken two wickets in the SA.
At our KCL training in Thrissur, we ran into Vignesh. And on the first day, he made an impression. Believe me, I assumed that he would be considered by an IPL team if he played even five games in the KCL. I was so optimistic, and there aren’t enough words to describe the way he bowled. He resembles a bowling champion. “He is very brave and there is no nervousness,” Ramakrishnan S told MyKhel.
Vignesh Puthur never makes the same mistakes twice: S. Ramakrishnan
The 24-year-old bowled after the powerplay against CSK and got rid of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad in the opening over, when he was on 53 runs in 26 balls. He later dismissed Shivam Dube and Deepak Hooda, demonstrating that he was unfazed by the Chepauk environment.
Ramakrishnan continued by praising the bowler and discussing his propensity to avoid making the same mistakes twice. “He never makes the same mistakes twice, which is his greatest strength. He never bowls that during the game if he gives up a six or a four due to a bad delivery. He is incredibly disciplined and keeps his rhythm,” batting coach Ramakrishnan S. observed.
