Former Indian captain Virat Kohli has hinted at continuing his international career with India till the 2027 ODI World Cup, which would be staged in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe. Kohli retired from T20 internationals after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup and from Test cricket in May 2025, following a slump in the red-ball format. He is now completely focused on the 50-over game.
The 36-year-old has been nominated to India’s team for the forthcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, which begins on October 19 at Perth’s Optus stadium. This marks his return to the national team following India’s successful Champions Trophy campaign earlier this year.
Kohli took to Twitter and wrote, ‘The only time you genuinely fail is when you decide to give up’. The statement prompted excitement among fans and pundits, with many assuming that the experienced batter is trying to make India’s ODI World Cup squad in 2027, while also pursuing greater success in the 50-over format.
