Virat Kohli is one of the best batters to have ever played cricket, and the great Viv Richards outlined some of his best traits.
In the red-ball format, Kohli has been having trouble at the bat for a while. Fans were worried about his performance before the 2025 Champions Trophy. In the opening encounter with Bangladesh, the mainstay was badly injured. He did, however, make a strong comeback in the second match against Pakistan, leading the Men in Blue to a decisive victory with an undefeated century.
Arguably the best batter in the West Indies, Richards praised Kohli’s tenacity and ability to bounce back from a lackluster spell.
“I believe that he truly answers all of us. He had to get up for these ODIs, I suppose. He wasn’t doing so well, but suddenly he returned in great shape. Therefore, that is a real testament to the character we’re talking about, which is why I consider him to be tremendous and legendary,” Richards stated in an interview with India Today.
“Players who can bounce back when they’re feeling low aren’t always available. But I put them up there with the finest because of his strong will, enthusiasm, and drive to succeed. He’s capable of going through difficult situations, and as they pass, they all turn out to be positive,” he continued.
Virat Kohli match against New Zealand is ended by a stunning catch by Glenn Phillips.
In India’s final group-stage match against New Zealand on Sunday, March 2, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, supporters were expecting another massive knock from Kohli. However, Glenn Phillips’ spectacular one-handed grab at backward point ended the 36-year-old’s stint at the crease, leaving him in complete amazement.
Matt Henry dismissed Kohli after he was unable to score more than 11 runs in 14 balls. In the seventh over, India lost their third wicket, with openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill having left before the Delhi batsman.
