England gave India a 305-run goal, and Virat Kohli was in the starting lineup.
In the meantime, skipper Jos Buttler chose to bat first after winning the toss earlier in the day in the second ODI between England and India. Since the opening batsmen gave the visitors a strong start, his choice was amply supported. The first wicket, Phil Salt, was taken in the eleventh over, but Ben Duckett, who looked menacing, came soon after, but not before he hit a spectacular 65-run innings.
However, by taking wickets frequently, Team India managed to regain ground in the middle stages of the match. England was consequently bowled out for 304. India made two changes to their playing XI in their opinion. Yashasvi Jaiswal, the opener, gave way to Virat Kohli. Due to a knee ailment, Kohli was unable to participate in the first ODI in Nagpur.
