During his early years in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Virat Kohli reported that he was “stunned” by the chats he had with former South African wicketkeeper-batter Mark Boucher.
Mark Boucher played for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) during the first three IPL seasons. During that period, Kohli recalled his encounters with the Eastern Cape-born.
“Boucher influenced me more than any other player I played with in the beginning. He identified my potential areas of weakness. If I wanted to advance, I would have to do this without requesting anything from him. He warned me that “you would do a disservice to yourself when I came to commentate in India three or four years from now and I did not see you playing for India.” “So he really shocked me with the conversations he had with me,” Kohli stated during an interview for the next installment of the RCB Podcast, a trailer for which was posted on the team’s official ‘X’ profile.
Having lived up to Boucher’s predictions, Virat Kohli is now regarded as one of the best batters in history.
former captain of India is still in the running this season after winning the Orange Cap in the IPL last year. He has scored 443 runs at an average of 63.29 from 10 innings.
The 18-time IPL champion, Kohli, also gave an explanation of his decision to stick with the team. He claimed that the affection he has received from his supporters surpasses any accolades.
“The love that I have received from the fans, I do not think any silverware or any trophy can come close to that,” he said.
Additionally, Kohli stated that he took a break from Twenty20 International cricket last year to allow the younger Indian players ample time to be ready for major tournaments like the World Cup.
It doesn’t seem like anything has changed for me. He concluded, “The decision (to leave T20Is) was made solely with the understanding that there is a new group of players who are more than ready and that they need time. They need a two-year cycle to handle pressure, evolve, play in different parts of the world, and play enough games to feel like they are ready when the World Cup comes.”
The RCB, led by Rajat Patidar, is winning seven of their ten games this season. Only the Mumbai Indians are higher in the standings than them, at number two.
