Virat Kohli praised India Test captain Shubman Gill on his good performances in the current Test in the five-match series between England and India. Gill carved his name into cricket history with knocks of 269 and 161 at Edgbaston.
Virat Kohli Instagram account included a photo of Shubman Gill celebrating his double-ton.
“Well played, star boy. Rewriting history. Onwards and upward from here. Kohli wrote, “You deserve all of this.”
Notably, Gill was under criticism entering the current series because to his previous lacklustre red-ball performances. However, the teenager has silenced his naysayers with record-breaking performances in the first two Tests.
Gill broke several records and entered a whole lot of distinguished elite lists after his knocks at Edgbaston. The 25-year-old has been receiving praise from the cricket community all around the globe.
Gill’s 430-run aggregate comprised a total of 43 fours and 11 sixes as he scored over 55% of his runs in boundaries. Gill also became only the second batter in the history of the format to register 150-plus scores in both innings of a Test after Allan Border (150* & 153) against Pakistan in Lahore in 1980.
Gill also broke into an elite list of cricketers involved in four 100-plus stands in a single Test. There were a whole lot of feats which he eclipsed as far as Indian cricket was concerned. All in all, it has been a remarkable day for the newly-instated Test skipper.
Speaking of the game, at stumps on Day 4, England stood at 72 for 3 in 16 overs with Ben Duckett (25 off 15), Zak Crawley (zero off seven), and Joe Root (six off 16) back in the hut. The visitors seem the favourities to clinch the win unless the English are able to pull off something extraordinary on the final day.
