After India defeated New Zealand by 44 runs in their last ICC Champions Trophy 2025 group-stage match, there was a lot of excitement, laughter, and joy in the dressing room. The awarding of the “Fielder of the Match,” a memento awarded to the game’s finest fielder, is one of the most entertaining of the numerous post-match events.
Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, and Virat Kohli were the medal contenders; each of them displayed exceptional athleticism on the field. The award, however, went to the always dependable Virat Kohli because of his quick reflexes and outstanding performance at crucial fielding positions.
Nevertheless, the communication took an unexpected turn because the token was missing. There was laughter in the locker room as the players and support staff searched for it. Others made fun of coach T. Dilip, while others mockingly accused one another of concealing it. The fun in the dressing room was enhanced when the medal was eventually discovered hidden in a kit bag.
When the medal was finally located, it was the privilege of training assistant Udenaka Nuwan Senevirathne to deliver it to Kohli, who smiled warmly as he accepted it.

After defeating Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand in the tournament’s group round, India advanced undefeated and will now play Australia in the first semi-final on March 4 in Dubai. South Africa and New Zealand will square off in the second semi-final on March 5 in Lahore.
The summit match between the two victorious teams will take place on March 9 in either Dubai or Lahore, contingent on India’s qualification.
