It was a big deal when star Indian batsman Virat Kohli returned to the Ranji Trophy after a 12-year absence, but it was his doppelgänger’s appearance that stole the show during Delhi’s game versus Railways at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Waiting were thousands of fans waiting to watch Virat Kohli return,
but one person stood out because he looked so much like the former captain of India that other fans took pictures with him. The doppelgänger had a thick beard and wore sunglasses that resembled Kohli’s.
As early as 5 AM, fans began to gather outside the stadium in hopes of seeing the legendary batter in action. Chants of “Kohli-Kohli” and “RCB RCB” filled the stadium as local business owners, schoolchildren, and office workers arrived.
However, the 36-year-old’s comeback to the Ranji Trophy was short-lived as Railways pacer Himanshu Sangwan removed him after he had only scored six runs. The Delhi hitter had a strong start to his innings, even hitting Himanshu Sangwan for a straight boundary. Sangwan’s magnificent length delivery in the very next delivery, however, got past Kohli’s resistance and sent his off-stump reeling.
Watching the batter make his way back to the pavilion stunned the stadium, which had been bouncing with excitement just moments before. As soon as he was dismissed, many of the spectators began to leave.
