There is a lot of talk in the cricket world about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s retirements. Moeen Ali, the former England star all-rounder, has spoken out about the renowned batters’ departures and how the club would suffer greatly as they prepare for the forthcoming Test series against the “Three Lions.”
The 37-year-old referred to their retirements from the format as a huge benefit for England when India travels to the United Kingdom for a five-Test series, recalling how the pair played in English conditions during India’s most recent tour. Moeen also highlighted Rohit’s success during the 2021 series in England, where he became one of India’s best batsmen.
“Undoubtedly, I believe it will greatly benefit England. Rohit and Virat Kohli are two elite players with experience who have visited England on tour a few times.
They have both experienced danger and glory while wearing the whites. After an infamously poor 2014 series, Kohli went on to make a tonne of runs in 2018. In India’s 2021 tour of the nation, Rohit delivered what is considered to be his best Test performance to date, Moeen stated on Sky Sports.
“The previous time they were in England, I recall Rohit playing pretty well. Given their personalities, leadership qualities, and the fact that they have both captained India in Test cricket, it is undeniably a huge blow to Test cricket and a huge loss for the squad. In Test cricket, he was the sole innovator and the one player who consistently promoted the format. Great career, great player. He’s done enough. He has made a significant contribution to the game, particularly in India,” he continued.
He was the guy, in my opinion, after Sachin Tendulkar: Moeen Ali
Moeen continued by praising Kohli’s ability to fill stadiums like the “Master Blaster” and drawing comparisons between him and Sachin Tendulkar. Additionally, he commended Kohli’s leadership and competitiveness in the esteemed format that made him one of the game’s greatest players.
“I believe that after Sachin Tendulkar, he was the one that people came to see, and he packed stadiums.” Fantastic record, and a great player to watch. He was an excellent captain and played in a very competitive style. “A serious setback for Test cricket,” Moeen said.
