Steve Harmison stated that India had scored more hundreds, top-order runs, and wickets with the new ball. However, England has emerged victorious, with the Ben Stokes-led side leading 2-1 in the five-match series with two games remaining.
In the third Test, India had a good chance of going 2-1 up after chasing down a 193-run target in the fourth innings at Lord’s Cricket Ground. However, the batting struggled, as India was bowled out for 170.
Former England pacer Harmison believes that the legendary Virat Kohli would have helped India easily reach the target in the fourth innings.
“India has scored more hundreds, top-order runs, and new ball wickets, but England always finds a way to win.” Finding a technique to create an event during a session that will influence the course of the game. For me, India needs to start believing. This is where players like Virat Kohli shined. In a fourth-inning chase, he won the game handily. “He would have won that game easily at Lord’s,” Harmison said on Match Day.
Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant are the top two run scorers in the five-match series thus far. On the other side, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah are among the top wicket-takers. The relatively inexperienced Indian team has performed admirably and dominated for the majority of the series, but they are now trailing 1-2.
The fourth Test is set to take place at the Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester, starting on Wednesday, July 23. India need to win this clash to remain in contention for winning the series. India’s overall record at the iconic Old Trafford has been quite abysmal, as they are winless in nine Tests (four losses and five draws). However, they wouldn’t read too much into past records, especially after beating England at Edgbaston for the first time in Test cricket earlier during the series.
