August 2, 2024, New Delhi: Virender Sehwag, a former Indian cricket player, was named the brand ambassador for the Delhi Premier League’s (DPL) first season by the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) on Friday. The declaration was made at the league’s lavish New Delhi opening celebration. The whole DDCA Apex Council was there on this particular occasion.
The DDCA is thrilled to present the DPL as a top T20 cricket league. With the goal of showcasing the best cricketing talent from Delhi and beyond, the league is chaired by retired IAS officer Shri Bimal Julka. It provides a platform for up-and-coming players to flourish and for seasoned professionals to continue impressing spectators. A solid basis for the league’s success is ensured by the engagement of DDCA, a key institution in Delhi’s cricket scene.
Virender Sehwag, who is renowned for his explosive batting style and brave demeanour, announced his joy at being named the Delhi Premier League’s brand ambassador, saying, “I am excited to join the Delhi Premier League as its brand ambassador.”
The six franchisees and their owners were notably disclosed during the inaugural event. Six men’s teams were sold for INR 49.65 crore in total. These are the names of the franchises:
Purani Dilli 6, East Delhi Riders, West Delhi Lions, North Delhi Strikers, Central Delhi Kings, and South Delhi Superstars
“We are honoured to have Virender Sehwag, one of India’s greatest cricketing legends, as the brand ambassador of the DPL,” Mr. Rohan Jaitley, President, Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), stated during the inauguration event. Given his ardour for the game and his extensive history in Delhi cricket, he is the ideal person to mentor and motivate the upcoming generation of players. There’s no doubt that his engagement will bring enormous value to the league.”
Additionally, the unveiling of the DPL Trophy and each franchise’s uniform marks the beginning of an exciting journey. Each team’s distinct identity and the competitive spirit they bring to the league are things we are delighted to highlight. This is a celebration of Delhi’s long history of cricket as well as an early look at the promising future we see for the game in our area,” he continued.

The Shri Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi will host all DPL matches from August 17, 2024, to September 8, 2024. There are 40 games scheduled for the T20 league’s debut season, with 33 matches for men and 7 for women.
