The 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is well underway, and fans have only one concern on their minds: whether or not CSK skipper MS Dhoni will continue to play after this season. Many have speculated that Dhoni will resign from the lucrative league after 2023.
Notably, in Chennai’s last game against Lucknow Super Giants, former New Zealand cricketer Danny Morrison jokingly asked the 41-year-old if he was relishing his last season, to which Dhoni cheekily replied that Morrison had decided that it would be his last season, not him.
Virender Sehwag, a former Indian batter, commented on MS Dhoni’s incessant nagging about the issue. He opined that repeating the same query was illogical and that Dhoni would make the final decision.
“I simply do not comprehend; why are they even asking? Why must the athlete be questioned, even if it’s his final season? It is his decision; let him make it! Perhaps he simply desired confirmation from Dhoni that it was indeed his final season. Only MS Dhoni knows if this is his final season,” Virender Sehwag told Cricbuzz.
LSG and CSK both score in Lucknow
In the 45th match of the tournament, the four-time champions faced Lucknow at Ekana Sports City Stadium. After losing the toss and opting to bat first, the hosts performed poorly with the bat. Ayush Badoni’s innings of 59* runs in 33 deliveries enabled the team to reach 125 runs before the onset of rain.
Moeen Ali, Maheesh Theekshana, and Matheesha Pathirana each claimed two wickets to help Chennai restrict their opponents to a low score. The competition was ultimately called off due to persistent rain, with both teams receiving one point.
